I'm flying QF MEL - SIN and 3K SIN - KUL booked together on the same ticket however there is about 15 hours between the two flights. I'm planning on leaving the airport and want to take my checked bags with me. Has anyone had any issues requesting this at check in? Thanks.
You should have no issues getting the bags short checked to SIN, especially if there is an overnight layover. I've done lots of trips between SYD/SIN/IPH and have always short checked since I had an overnight in SIN.
Just check the baggage receipt or bag tag that it has indeed been checked to SIN only before they load it.
Buy Malaysia Airlines (MH) instead, better service, cheaper fare and since MH are oneworldmember, credit miles to QF, not even mention it's direct from MEL to KUL.

Did it recently ex PER. Just told them at check-in that I was checking to SIN. No problems.

Why not book your luggage through and take a change of clothes in your hand luggage.?

I typically don't care about earning SC when aboard, since I do SC run on MEL-PER on J and get my oneworld Emerald through QF (Platinum One).
