I use Uber all the time from KLIA. The prices are really reasonable so you may want to select Uber Black / Premium for a bit more comfort as some of the Uber X cars are quite small if you have multiple passengers or luggage.
In terms of pick up zones, the app will default to the KLIA arrivals zone. The doors are numbered in KL like SG so I usually just send the driver a message and say I'm in front of door 3 etc.
In terms of turf war - it's not an issue at all. Just be prepared to wait around 15 mins or so for the driver to arrive as the traffic is usually a bit chaotic.

Uber is great in Malaysia, I got a ride from KLIA to Ipoh (3hrs) for A$ 65! Drivers are friendly and reliable.
