Most FF programs allow you to search for reward availability on their respective website without having the points balance required for the flight, Thai doesn't work like this and you are unable to even search if you don't have the required balance. I want to check availability prior to transferring points from my amex rewards to thai just in case there are no seats available which would make it a waste of time, does anyone know a way around this to check? Thanks so much in advance guys cheers.

It seems that the best way to do this is to check for Thai flights on another Star Alliance airline’s website: try Singapore and United for starters. Or you could always give Thai a call.

You should also be aware that it might take a couple of days longer for AmEx rewards points to turn up in your Thai FF account. It might be a bit of a nail biting wait!

Thai transfers from AMEX can take up to 5 business days, which basically means the miles could show up in your Thai account on the same calendar day one week later - that's a long time to wait for them to come across! Also consider KrisFlyer's rates, which are marginally higher than Thai on some routes, but transfers from AMEX tend to happen within a day or so, so you might need a few more miles but you can lock your seat in, rather than risking for a week that somebody else won't come along and take the reward you wanted. :)

Thanks Chris yes after further thought I won't take the risk of the reward seat disappearing in the transfer time and will just transfer to velocity and book SQ from there. Us brisbanites only have thai as the direct option unfortunately.

Hello everyone, this is my first question and am brand new to this site. I too have many points sitting in my Amex account and did in fact ring Thai last year to enquire as to whether I could book a business class seat using my points for a trip which was in 6 months time. The Customer Service Rep advised me that the seats hadn't been released yet, had no idea when they would be and I would be put on a waiting list. He told me to transfer my Amex points across to ROP. I was very reluctant to do this and didn't because if it turned out I couldn't use them for the flight, I risked losing them (within the 3 year timeframe). I have used points many times before to book business seats and I've never had a problem. He indicated that this was something new. I'm travelling with "paying" family and ended up just purchasing the ticket without using the points. Has anyone had this problem lately?? Thank you so much in advance.
