Bloomberg says that HNA has held "preliminary talks" to sell its airline assets to Air China. HNA has been offloading a lot of assets this year, more than USD$20bn according to Bloomberg. I wonder if this will end up with Air China accidentally getting a stake in Virgin Australia? Might not be a bad thing given Virgin's intended push into China. The Bloomberg story is at https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-12-12/air-china-group-is-said-to-have-held-talks-to-buy-hna-s-airlines

Bloomberg also said EY and EK are under negotiation of a merger, which is denied by both sides. The rumor you referred is also denied by CA and HU. Not saying Bloomberg is not trustworthy, but it trends to be a gossip newspaper now.

This rumour is as likely as SQ's many "VA takeover" articles which all have turned out to be complete fizzers.

Saying that the article seems to be focusing on HNA group's assets in general without mentioning VA specifically.
