Hi all,

Currently a platinum FF with QANTAS and moving to Toronto Canada. As much as I love QANTAS and one world it just doesn’t seem sustainable to stay with one world once I’ve made the move. It’s unfortunate that a few years back air canada pulled out of the one world alliance or at least an agreement with QANTAS that they had.

Does anyone have any tricks moving to Canada and jumping over to star alliance while maintaining at least a gold membership for lounge access?

Thanks in advance.

This situation would be ideal for a status match/challenge. Air Canada currently offers a status challenge for elite members and they match to their Altitude Elite 50k which is Star Gold giving you lounge access for star alliance and AC when you fly. You need to fly 18,500 qualifying miles or 18 segments but don't have status during the qualifying period. You could also match to United which will give you temporary Platinium status equivalent to star gold and you need to qualify within 90days to extend it. The caveat is United doesn't let elites access lounges when flying domestic US which you might be doing a bit.
