Wasted status credits after upgrading to Velocity Platinum?

I’m wondering if anyone has any experiences with this to share...


Recently I flew from Melbourne to Singapore with SQ, crediting points and status credits to VA. When I was in Singapore, I checked my VA account and my status credit balance was now 1050, so I knew I qualified for platinum. I then took an onward flight that day to Thailand, which also credited very quickly to my VA account, making the balance 1080.

The next day, Virgin processed the upgrade to platinum, all good. But the 12 months to retain platinum started from the date they processed the upgrade, which effectively means the additional 80 SCs earned don’t count towards the 800 needed to retain. The VA website does not include them in the progress to retain graphic.

I think I will probably hit the 800 this year so I’m not too worried, but in case I fall short by 80 SCs or less, does anyone know if Virgin will consider this upon request?

Don't think you can have the excess credits from your flight to Singapore, but you may be able to have the extra 30 manually credited into this year for the Thailand trip. I'm not sure the exact rules since it was same day and if it was on the same booking, whether that would make any difference. It's addressed in the Velocity T&C's if you search for it, but just call the Platinum hotline they can tell you pretty quickly if they are willing to manually credit it or not.

I had the same thing about two years ago, I got platinum on SYD-LAX then flew LAX-JFK the same day. Upon request virgin manually adjusted the LAX-JFK flight so it counted towards the following year

I also called up and had flights credited into the new year when I made platinum. Some partner milage didn't get credited so the flights taken in between were counted as prior year.
