Flying Singapore to Brisbane this weekend on Qantas as a Platinum member. I have two options for upgrading:
Classic upgrade award, 50,000 points
Bid cash upgrade, from 5,000 points + $525 up to 36,000 points + $270 (both the lowest cash amounts possible).
At the highest bidding level compared to a classic upgrade, there is essentially a saving of 14,000 points for a $270 cash co-payment. This values each Qantas Point quite highly at 1.92cpp. In addition, Classic Upgrades would have higher priority for processing?
I bet there would be at least 1 Gold or Plat member on the flight given they connect very well to QF1 to London. Your chances are slim either way but I believe Classic Upgrades get processed before a cash upgrade.

I’m not sure, but I do think that the Classic Upgrades do get priority. Let us know how you get on...
