Hi, I’ve booked VA Sydney to Hong Kong in November and will be transferring from a VA Adelaide to Sydney domestic the same morning. The layover is 1hr 55 minutes but having never transferred at Sydney before am worried that it will be long enough. Unfortunately I’m already on the first flight out of Adelaide so can’t leave earlier. Has anyone done this transfer and was the timeframe OK?

That is plenty of time. You will be checked in and you can use the transfer service near Gate 41 in the VA domestic terminal. Enjoy the flight

That VA chartered bus from SYD T2 to SYD T1 now goes the internal road, ie, the same one that QF uses, so it does not go onto the main road.

Have used it several times, since the internal road started being used, ADL - SYD - NZ when there was still the tie in between VA and (Air)NZ.

Now, coming back SYD T1 to SYD T2, ie, int to dom, that is a free for all, and best to leave more time, as the bus leaves from the left hand side of the T1 terminal, facing the Rydges, and you have to line up with all and sundry, even if you have been given the little long slip of a bus pass.

Going from ADL, your bags would have been tagged as all the way to HKG, so you don't have to pick it up in SYD, and your passport would have been swiped in ADL as well, so no need to stop at the VA desks at SYD T1.

No more Aust OPC, so that is even faster.

Express path at SYD is closed at the moment, while they do works to the building.

When your bus gets to SYD T1, it will be on ground level, but you have to go up a set of escalators to int dep at T1, so might have to go fast.

Outgoing immi will still be done in SYD, your flight from ADL will still be a dom flight, so only dom sec screening in ADL, but the full sec screening in SYD.

You will still need your passport at ABF to self process in SYD, so keep it close at hand.

They have the newer full body scanner, no longer the one where glass or perplex door moves to scan you, nowadays, you are not enclosed, still have to face sideways though.

Thanks so much for the feedback that really helps. I'm staying in Sydney with family for a few days on the way back so the Int'l Dom transfer won't be such a hassle. Cheers
