I have just heard that virgin will now provide the option to upgrade to business using points from the Lounge just before your flight based on availability. This is being evaluated at Melbourne only and if successful will be rolled out nationally. Has anyone heard about this?

There's a thread on AFF that was started about two weeks ago regarding this. Haven't had the opportunity yet, but would def be good.

Yes, up to T-40m from MEL at this stage. Handy if all the reward seats are gone when you book as they're opening up an spare J seat with this procedure.

Does anyone know if this is (or will be) available to upgrade from any economy seat, or just Flexi fares? Currently VA only allows upgrades using points if pax have paid for a flexi fare. I am VA Gold but I usually can't justify the flexible option as the chances of my schedule changing is small. It would be good if I could decide at the lounge to upgrade with points.
