I read that the ACCC approved the alliance between Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand till the end of 2013, has this been extended or changed? It is a shame to have such a good alliance destroyed.

I believe it is currently being reviewed to go for another 5(?) years, but part of the review is that VA and NZ have to maintain a certain number of seats on routes, but they are saying that some routes (like to Queenstown I would imagine) are very seasonal and they should be able to adjust the seats accordingly

If they have approved the QF-EK alliance on the tasmin is this not just a formality?

Usually it would be a formality but both carriers want to be able to reduce their capacity across the Tasman (on certain routes only, I believe)
