Fancy getting on the fast track to Gold frequent flyer status? That shiny card can be yours just by jetting from Australia to London and back in Malaysia Airlines' business class.

It's a compelling 'zero to hero' promotion: even if you start without as single status credit to your name, by the time you finish the trip you'll have 12 months of Gold membership in Malaysia Airlines' Enrich frequent flyer scheme.

In turn, as Malaysia Airlines belongs to the Oneworld airline alliance, Enrich Gold comes with the same perks as Qantas Gold and Cathay Pacific Marco Polo Gold, among others (those all line up as equivalent to Oneworld's Sapphire status).

Benefits of Gold status

The perks of Gold status hit the sweet spot for most travellers: you'll enjoy access to the business class lounge of any Oneworld member airline on international flights and many domestic flights - such as within the UK or Japan.

There's an added bonus if you have some domestic US travel on the agenda, as this Gold card will also provide entry to American Airlines' Flagship Lounges and Admirals Club lounges: a privilege for which most of American Airlines' own frequent flyers have to pay.

Note however that on domestic Qantas flights within Australia, Malaysia Airlines' Enrich Gold status qualifies for entry into Qantas Club lounges rather than Qantas Business lounges.

Other practical benefits of Gold status include priority check-in and priority boarding, plus priority baggage handling and an increased allowance for checked luggage.

Malaysia Airlines Enrich Gold promotion

To take advantage of Malaysia Airlines Enrich Gold promotion, begin by signing up to Malaysia Airlines' Enrich program (if you're not already a member) so that your new Gold status can be minted at the end of your trip.

Then, book a return Malaysia Airlines Business Class or Business Suites fare from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth to London by 16 September 2019, for travel before 30 July 2020.

Note that if you're already an Enrich Gold or Platinum member, booking that Australia-London trip during this period will see you receive a bonus 50,000 Enrich Elite Miles (the Enrich equivalent to Qantas status credits) to speed your way to retaining your current status or potentially turbo-charge your progress from Enrich Gold to Platinum.
