Food for thought: new Qantas first class lounge menu for summer

Summer is finally here, and with it a refreshed menu for the Qantas first class lounges at Sydney and Melbourne.

These seasonal menus are a centrepiece of superchef Neil Perry’s approach to dining at the flagship Qantas First Lounges, using the latest produce and giving very frequent flyers a bit of 'surprise and delight' variety by adding new dishes alongside perennial favourites.

So what are some of the new pre-flight delights?

We've noticed a little extra Japanese influence in this summer menu, including an intriguing Tsukemen dipping ramen.

New Western-style dishes to try include pork rillettes with pickled peaches and rocket, and tagliatelle with asparagus, prosciutto, fresh peas, lemon & parmesan.

The ever-popular buffalo mozzarella remains missing in action, alas.

For dessert, the pavlova is swapped out for a berry trifle and a very summer-sounding 'Splice' pine-lime granita with vanilla ice cream. We're sure that both go very well with a glass of the nectar-sweet Noble One or your choice of champagne from Bollinger, Delamotte, Tattinger and Veuve.

Of course, keep an eye on the 'Market Inspirations' section of the all-day dining menu, which typically changes every few days (but always includes a vegetarian meal and a seasonal soup).

If you're visiting the Qantas First Lounge at Sydney or Melbourne through to the end of February 2014, click the links below to download a copy of the menu and start planning your first class feast!

Cheers David. You're a star!

I was just thinking about the menu for a flight next weekend! It would appear that you've read my mind!

I think being in the lounge its the only time where I would welcome an extended flight delay.   Menu is always grea especiallytif you travel in two or with a better half so you can at least sample more of the menu without too much guilt ! :)

Nooooo - not the Pavolva, was amazing the last time I was in there.

The Pavlova was amazing but if Jamie Oliver is promoting it for Woolies with Australian "stoned fruit" then I guess it's not cool enough for Qantas.

Although I'd imagine stoned fruit would be better than a stoned chef...*hint* *hint* Nigella....
