IN BRIEF | Travellers on Etihad Airways and American Airlines can already earn frequent flyer miles on each other's network, but as of this week they can also burn them.
From today, members of Etihad's Guest and American's AAdvantage programmes will be able to redeem miles on eligible flights. This follows the June 1 announcement that the airlines would allow passengers to earn mileage across their respective networks.
“I am thrilled to offer full ‘earn and burn’ options for the valued members of the Etihad Guest and AAdvantage programs" said Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer. "Codeshare and frequent flyer partnerships, such as the one we have with American, are vital to Etihad’s success as a young and growing airline."
Earlier this month Etihad rolled out some significant changes to Etihad Guest, which among other things made all Etihad seats upgradable using points regardless of the booking class of your ticket.
