HSBC customers can now link their HSBC Visa and MasterCard credit cards to Apple Pay to make purchases using their iPhone or Apple Watch wherever contactless payments are accepted, without needing to carry their physical HSBC credit card.

To get started, simply open the Wallet app on your compatible device, tap on the ‘+’ button next to Apple Pay, enter your HSBC credit card information and then accept HSBC’s Apple Pay terms and conditions.

You’ll then receive a verification code via SMS or email, and once you’ve keyed this in, you’re good to go!

When you’re ready to make an Apple Pay payment, double click the home button when your iPhone is locked, ensuring that your fingerprint has been read, and then hold your phone near a contactless card reader – such as an EFTPOS terminal with PayWave or PayPass facilities – until you hear a beep.

Spenders with multiple cards linked to Apple Pay can flick the screen upwards to rotate between them or to select another card, while Apple Watch users can double click the side button to pay from their default card or can similarly scroll left or right to select their desired card.

HSBC joins a growing number of banks in Australia which support Apple Pay – including American Express, ANZ and Macquarie, among others – although several major issuers such as Citibank, the Commonwealth Bank, NAB and Westpac do not support Apple Pay at present.
