Seven things we love about Malaysia Airlines’ new business class

There’s no better way to begin your trip to Malaysia than in Malaysia Airlines business class, and that’s especially true now that the Oneworld member is flying its latest Airbus A330neo between Australia and Kuala Lumpur.

The modern A330neo jets already feature on the daily MH148/MH149 service between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur – and by the end of this year there’ll be three daily A330neo flights on the MEL-KUL route, for greater flexibility in planning your trip.

  • MH128 departs Melbourne at 11:30pm, reaching KL at 6am
  • MH146 departs Melbourne at 9:00am, reaching KL at 2:15pm
  • MH148 departs Melbourne at 1:25pm, reaching KL at 8:10pm

Each A330neo is crowned by 28 all-new suites which take the familiar Malaysia Airlines business class experience to the next level.

First up is the 1-2-1 layout, which means that every passenger has direct access to the aisle. Solo travellers can opt for a window seat with a view, while couples can choose the middle seats and share their journey.

There’s more personal space, including a handy bench next to your seat plus a large table which extends from beneath the video screen for dining or working, so you can make yourself right at home.

Complementing this are high walls around the suite and a sliding door for total privacy.

This is especially practical during the overnight leg of any flight – just ask the Malaysia Airlines cabin crew to make up your lie-flat bed with the mattress topper and blanket, and you can begin your restful sleep and be fully refreshed when you land.

There’s also fast and completely free Wi-Fi, which we’ve clocked at a decent 10Mbps.

You don’t need to sign up to a plan or even enter your frequent flyer number: just join the inflight MHconnect hotspot with your laptop, smartphone or tablet, and you’re on the air.

And to keep your tech powered up en route, every A330neo business suite has a universal AC socket, USB-C and USB-A outlets plus wireless charging handily located on the bench top, so that your phone always remains within easy reach.

If you’d rather relax with a movie or one of your favourite TV shows, the 17.3” 4K Ultra HD screen is delightfully sharp and crisp – and you can don the supplied noise-cancelling headphones, or have the audio streamed straight to your own headphones or earbuds via simple Bluetooth pairing.

Beyond the business class seats themselves, you’ll find the A330neo improves the overall passenger experience with a quieter cabin, ambient LED lighting schemes and larger overhead bins with a 66% greater capacity for carry-on bags.

Of course, Malaysia Airlines can take you well beyond Kuala Lumpur. The Oneworld airline remains a popular choice for Australians headed across Asia, as well as to Paris and London.

In fact, transit passengers can enjoy a free visit to some of Malaysia’s hidden gems – including Langkawi and Penang – through the complimentary Bonus Side Trip offer.

It’s all part of the unique Malaysia Airlines experience, and with the flag-carrier building up to three daily flights from Melbourne ahead of the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026 you’ll find some amazing airfares to tempt you, starting at $3,199 business class return.
