Velocity fires up 20% bonus points promo on AMEX transfers

Been stockpiling AMEX Membership Rewards points in anticipation of Velocity’s next points promo? The moment you’ve been waiting for has arrived – and the clock is now ticking on a two week window for cardholders to complete their transfer and rake in those points.

From now until midnight on February 28, Velocity Frequent Flyer is offering up to a 20% bonus on points transfers in a single transaction, starting from a minimum 2,000 Membership Rewards points.

Another way to look at it: the number of Velocity points needed to snare a flight on Virgin Australia or one of its international airlines will be reduced by up to 20%.

In just a few clicks, you could soon be winging your way onto that next points-based award flight booking on either Virgin Australia or its partners such as Air Canada, Etihad Airways, Hawaiian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways and United Airlines.

It’s worth noting the promo is only open to Australian card members this time around, meaning those across the ditch in New Zealand will have to sit on the sidelines for now.

The bonus is also tied to specific cards, while points may take up to six weeks to appear in your Velocity account. But, if you’re not in a hurry to book a flight, it’s well worth the wait.

Those holding the following cards receive a 15% bonus…

• Membership Rewards Ascent
• Gateway, Premium Ascent
• Corporate Ascent
• David Jones Membership Rewards program

…while those with one of the below cards in their wallet, and who are also enrolled in the Premium Ascent Membership Rewards Program, can earn a 20% bonus on transfers. 

• Centurion Members
• The Platinum Charge Card
• Rewards Advantage Card
• The Platinum Business Card

You can claim this bonus as many times as you want until February 28, as long as you shift the minimum number of points to Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer each time.
