Vietnamese start-up Bamboo Airways is barely two years old, but it's gunning for the frequent flyers of almost 60 airlines – specifically, all member airlines of the Oneworld, SkyTeam and Star Alliance families – with an instant status match promotion.

That's an extensive roster covering the likes of Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand, ANA, Lufthansa, China Airlines, Garuda Indonesia and, well, the list goes on and on.

Up for grabs are Gold, Diamond and First status in the airline's own Bamboo Club loyalty program.

And unlike Bamboo Airways' 2020 status match program, there's no listed requirement to complete one business class flight with the airline: just join Bamboo Club (it's free), apply online for the status match and submit proof of your current status with a Oneworld, SkyTeam or Star Alliance member.

Bamboo Airways will status-match against all alliance member airlines.

Bamboo Airways status match tiers

The naming conventions of the Bamboo Club tiers will be confusing to most frequent flyers, as even the lowest levels sound rather premium, so here's how they shake out.

Bamboo Club Emerald is the program's entry level, and it's where you'll begin upon joining Bamboo Club.

Bamboo Club Gold will be matched from Oneworld Ruby (such as Qantas Silver), Star Alliance Silver and SkyTeam Elite tiers. Benefits include use of business class check-in desks; priority services such as seat selection, baggage handling and boarding; and a fee waiver on an additional 5kg of checked baggage.

Bamboo Club Diamond will be matched only from Oneworld Sapphire (such as Qantas Gold), and is the sweet spot in terms of practical perks for frequent flyers.

This ups the ante to include access to Bamboo Airways' business class lounges; a fee waiver on an additional 10kg of checked baggage; and a complimentary upgrade to Bamboo Plus class or Bamboo Business class "if your original seat class is full and higher-tiered seat class is available at the time of check-in or boarding."

Bamboo Club Diamond and First status unlocks access to Bamboo Airways lounges.

Bamboo Club First will be matched from Oneworld Emerald (such as Qantas Platinum and Platinum One), Star Alliance Gold and SkyTeam Elite Plus tiers.

Flash that black card to join the priority line at customs and security areas, bring a guest into the Bamboo Airways lounge, and have fees waived on an additional 20kg of checked baggage.

How to apply for the Bamboo Airways status match

Bamboo Airways' current status match promotion runs through to June 30, 2021.

Start by signing up for your free Bamboo Club membership at bambooclub.bambooairways.com.

With your Bamboo Club membership number on hand, apply for the Bamboo Airways status match via the airline's online Google Docs form.

You'll need to upload a photo or scan of your eligible frequent flyer membership card or a screenshot from your account, along with "an image that captures an official government-issued identification or passport."

The airline says it will respond to each application "within 7-10 business days", while any follow-up email enquires can be sent to [email protected]

Further information on the Bamboo Airways 2021 status match promotion is available at the airline's website.
