Delta confirms plans for exclusive Delta One business class lounges

Delta Air Lines will open its maiden Delta One lounge for the exclusive use of its business class passengers at New York’s JFK Airport next year, with another to come in Los Angeles in 2024.

Located in Concourse B near Terminal 4, the new pre-flight home for Delta One customers will be highly spacious at 3,300 square metre, offering a higher standard of service to its existing Sky Club offering and serving guests in its premium long-haul and cross-country cabin.

The first in what will become a network of dedicated Delta One facilities, will be joined in 2024 by a second facility measuring 929 square metres at Los Angeles International.

The LAX lounge will be accessible via a door within the airline’s newly opened US$2.3 billion Sky Way and Sky Club redevelopment at LAX, located on the departures level between Terminals 2 and 3.

Food and beverage at the Delta One lounge will be superior to the Sky Club.

Highlights of the space include the year-round all-weather Sky Deck where guests can enjoy postcard views over the Hollywood Hills.

After checking in at the automated kiosks, guests can access a variety of seating options including communal benches and tables overlooking the runway, private phone booths for quiet work, and even a large meeting-style area for corporate travellers on the go.

Multiple nooks are also dotted throughout, including a Coffee Grotto, which echoes Hollywood's Golden Age with an exquisite mosaic mural featuring glass tiles imported from Italy. Numerous food and beverage stations will ensure plates and glasses will never be empty.

Club restrooms have also been adjusted for greater comfort and privacy, with a nursing room, oversized family restrooms, and eight showers managed via a virtual queuing system.

Additional Delta Sky Clubs are also due to open soon at Chicago O’Hare, Nashville, Boston and at its Atlanta hub, although it isn’t known whether these will also feature Delta One business class areas.

While specific details and designs on the new Delta One lounge at LAX are still under wraps, it will undoubtedly improve Delta’s competitive standing among its trans-Pacific rivals including Qantas, which reopened its Oneworld business class lounge late last year, while its separate International First lounge remains closed for now.

Local rivals American Airlines and United Airlines have maintained their respective Flagship and Polaris lounges at LAX for some years. Now finally, Delta appears to be making an effort to catch up.

Delta says it remains committed to the Australia market, confirming it will increase the frequency of its flights down-under to ten weekly from December 2022

They NEED to upgrade their morose lounge in the international “S” satellite at seattle, their pacific hub. There is a modern one in the main building but it’s filled mostly w domestic travellers

There is no doubt a large customer base in delta lounges considering you can just buy access on a yearly basis. Very much like qantas club.

Might not be a bad ideal to allow the top level members "diamond level" to also be able to use the delta one lounge.

Anyway as a skyteam elite plus I am happy enough with delta club JFK.

Air Canada has two Signature lounges for revenue-Business Class passengers only: Toronto and Vancouver (just reopened). I've visited the Toronto one pre-pandemic (Vancouver next week) and it was a first-class experience. Very quiet, relatively few pax, and the food at the buffet was outstanding.

Sounds promising; most U.S. ‘club’ lounges are pretty ordinary compared to the middle eastern and down-under airlines.

Note to author / editor.  Para. commencing “Multiple nooks ….”   The 4th word from the end should read ‘need’ not ‘will’.  Unless, that is, the food & beverage stations automatically refill your plate or glass.
