Qantas slashes points needed for hotels, holidays

Hotel bookings and combined flight + hotel getaways made through Qantas’ website will now cost significantly less, with the airline slashing the number of points needed across its Qantas Hotels and Qantas Holiday catalogue.

Package deals of a Qantas or Jetstar flight and a hotel stay at your destination are in for the biggest cut, with rates cut to 45% less Qantas Points as of today.

One particularly impressive example sees five nights for two adults in the luxury Pan Pacific hotel in London, along with return Qantas economy class flights, plummet from 908,512 points to 499,512 points (based on a check-in date of 14 September 2022).

If it’s just a hotel stay you’re after, the 440,000 properties available through Qantas Hotels are now available for 30% less points across the board.

One night in a Classic Room at InterContinental Hayman Island Resort in the Whitsundays used to cost 190,871 points, but is now yours for just 133,610 points.

Planning a golf getaway? Two nights for two people at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort is sliced from 164,945 points to 115,461 points (based on a Garden View Room).

Farther afield, the chic L’Ermitage Beverly Hills in Los Angeles is nearly 90,000 points cheaper for a night in a Classic Suite, down from 289,686 points to 202,780 points.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth says the move is designed to improve value for Qantas Frequent Flyer members and drive member engagement.

“Members have remained highly engaged despite the low levels of flying over the past two years, shown by the fact they’ve kept earning points on the ground and then redeemed them in record numbers,” Wirth said.

“We saw more than seven billion points used to redeem flights in just four weeks following borders reopening and we want to keep that momentum going by making points go further for hotels and holidays, which in turn encourages members to keep earning with our partners and with the airline.”

Travellers choosing the Points Plus Pay option to book flights will also save 20% of the points component for bookings made before the end of April 2022, for travel until April 2023.

Exciting news except using points for award flights are not covered .

The hassles associated with actually using the points for a front of the cabin seat and the excessive taxes  ,fuel fines etc etc are such that here is where a discount needs to be applied.

LOL so they went from being totally ridiculously and never worth a points redemption to  just plain ridiculous.?

Never use your point except for flights (classic rewards) ...anything else is a farce and I cant believe people fall for it!

Hotel and holidays with points are so unpopular, it is better now but not sure it is great value for money. Why not flights?

The T,S @ C'S are so ridiculous when it comes to top end travel, Lounges closed at inappropriate times, $75 McDonalds  vouchers issued as compensation etc. Staying at home looks more attractive.
