Last chance: Virgin Velocity double Status Credits promo

Heads up, Velocity frequent flyers – the clock’s ticking on the final 24 hours of Virgin Australia’s double Velocity status credits offer.

The promotion closes at 11.59pm tonight, Monday 30 October, and covers all new Virgin Australia bookings made for flights through to 31 December 2023.

And with those flights earning twice the usual serve of Velocity Status Credits, this is likely to be your best chance for the rest of this year to either jump up to Velocity Gold or Velocity Platinum or lock in your elite tier for another year.

As with previous Velocity double status credits promotions, you’ll need to register for this offer at the Velocity double Status Credits activation link on the Virgin Australia website before making your DSC-eligible booking.

To give that some perspective, a one-way business class flight from Sydney to Brisbane or Melbourne would normally earn 55 status credits.

Under this latest promo, you’d stand to pocket a tidy 110 points for that one-way business class flight.

Given that you need 500 Status Credits to tick your Velocity tier over to Gold, or just 400 Status Credits to keep Velocity Gold membership for another year, a few of those return trips will have you suitable gilded in no time.

(For what it’s worth, the same one-way flight on an economy Choice ticket will earn you a not-to-be-sneezed-at 30 status credits under the DSC deal.)

The Velocity double status credits promotion applies across Virgin’s Australia-wide network plus international flights – anything flown by Virgin and carrying a VA flight number, so codeshares with partners such as ANA, Air Canada, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and United Airlines don’t apply.

Now we’re just waiting to see if Qantas fires back with its own double Status Credits offer in the weeks to come...

Wish VA would introduce lifetime status. I've already got enough status credits to retain Platinum until March 2025, but lifetime status would tempt me to book more flights during these offers.

If only platinum VA was worth chasing. Those four upgrades are as good as an ashtray on a motorbike.

I just used an upgrade today. Really depends on the route but there are plenty available on the golden triangle, busy routes out of the GC and Fiji at the moment.

What a pity for me that the flights must be taken by 31-12-2023, am already Plat, renewal date is February 2024, so no real benefit getting any more SCs before then.  That aside, what do others have to say is the best (Double) Status Credits run for those seeking Gold or Platinum?  For mine it's MEL-BNE-CNS-BNE-MEL in J-class.  Just one way to get 640 SCs in a day by 31-12-2023.  Any other routes we should be aware of?

If Virgin would wise up and introduce lifetime status, they would find that these promotions were alot more successful. VA Plat for 8 years now, but nothing to show for it.

I agree 100%, Virgin really needs to get moving on lifetime status, it's a big loyalty driver for Qantas because you want to keep going to get that lifetime status. The only problem would be that Virgin is petty much a domestic or short-haul carrier, none of those long international legs like Qantas has, so the Lifetime status thresholds would have to be set fairly low to actually be attainable on Virgin's flights, most of which are within 2-3 hours so the accumulated SC earn rate would be low compared to QF. So finding the right Lifetime status threshold would be paramount, too low and you would immediately have tens of thousands of Lifetime Silvers, Lifetime Golds and Lifetime Platinums based on their previous decade of flying with Virgin, but set the threshold too high and it simply will be too far out of reach and not be any sort of incentive.

Great way to devalue the SC proposition and dare I say it the Virgin Brand as a whole. The features and supposed benefits of Platinum are being diminished by the day let alone buy a business class seat! Oh and by the way add family pooling of SC to the above.

So here's proof that you can't please everyone. Most people are happy to see a DSC offer but you'll always have some who having already earned that status, think a DSC offer cheapens everything.

"a DSC offer cheapens everything." that's because it does from every SC value marketing metric!

Seems like this is a response to the SC bonus Qantas gave this year.  No real value to those who have flown enough to requalify for Gold or Platinum.  Doesn't seem to be a real value to the loyal flyers.

Interesting a third status promo, the issue is hit 800 or 1800 and it’s a pointless exercise after that amount of status credits but if they had a 2700 status tier that bite of the cherry might work bettter.

BTW the dateline for booking is AEST 1159pm 30 Oct, which is AEDT 1259am 31 Oct for NSW, VIC and TAS although I wouldn’t be waiting for the last hour to book in case the system crash or worse, had a glitch which doesn’t recognise the daylight saving hours

But yeah, the short lead time of 2 months to book and travel to take advantage of the DSC is not very useful, just like the first DSC of 2023

This is interesting and confusing as the Velocity App explicitly states

"We’re giving you the chance to boost your Status with Double Status Credits, when you activate and book an eligible flight with Virgin Australia before 30 October 2023, and fly before 31 December 2023."

Which means activation and booking had to be completed by 11:59 29th! they also use the word "by"-which is it?

Yes, but think of the Westies who always have to adjust their time set for any Eastie centric “Australia-wide” for any promotion (not just airlines)

Some international conferences with Australian venue I go to this year, had a GMT cutoff for early bird which confuse everyone and particularly US registrants who missed out by quite a few hours.

The other thing is that the flights must be completed by 31 Dec 2023 so the Christmas break return booking might be problematic (most would only come back sometime after new year) unless they allow the departure flight to be counted rather than the whole return itinerary)

Otherwise one will need book departure flight separately from return flight to avoid issues.
