New customers to Optus can pocket up to 20,000 bonus Flybuys points under a new deal with the Coles-backed loyalty program, which can be converted into frequent flyer points with both Virgin Australia and Etihad Guest.
Sign up for a new My Prepaid Ultimate service and recharge with $30 to earn an easy 3,000 Flybuys points, take out a new 12-month SIM Only plan and net 5,000 Flybuys points or ink a 24-month My Plan Plus contract with a handset included to earn 10,000-20,000 Flybuys points.
Those points can then be converted to Virgin Australia Velocity on a 2,000 = 870 basis or to Etihad Guest on a 10,000 = 4,000 basis, giving post-paid customers a chance to earn up to 8,700 Velocity points or 8,000 Etihad Guest miles with their new Optus service.
Under both programs, that’s more than enough points for a one-way economy flight from Sydney to Melbourne, plus a small payment to cover taxes and surcharges on the flight – typically around $20.
You’ll have until early February 2017 to pocket these bonus Flybuys points, after which the offer may or may not be extended.
Existing Optus customers are not eligible to earn Flybuys points, while new Optus customers must sign-up for these deals via a dedicated website – check your latest Flybuys emails for your personalised link.
Optus has previously partnered with Qantas Frequent Flyer but ended the arrangement in June 2015, with Vodafone taking its place in February 2016, offer Qantas members a fixed amount of frequent flyer points when taking out a new contract.
The new deal between Optus and Flybuys comes less than a week after Telstra departed from the Flybuys scheme, with Telstra customers no longer able to earn Flybuys points on their monthly phone bill.
