Plaza Premium to open new airport lounges at Singapore, Heathrow

Plaza Premium has several new lounges on its slate for 2015, with a strong focus on arrivals lounges where inbound business travellers can rest up before heading into the city to start their day.

The Hong Kong-based company will open a new lounge at Singapore's Changi Airport Terminal 1 "in the next two months" says Mei-Mei Song, Corporate Communications Manager with Plaza Premium Lounge Management (below).

"It's where the Rainforest Lounge was in T1 – we've taken over the space to become a Plaza Premium lounge and it's going to be very exciting" Song told Australian Business Traveller on the sidelines of the opening of SkyTeam’s new Sydney Airport lounge, which Plaza Premium manages.

Plaza Premium will also give its Al Dhabi pay-in lounge at Abu Dhabi a much-needed makeover, following last year's luxe renovations to the airport's Al Reem Lounge (above and below).

London’s Heathrow Airport will also see its second Plaza Premium arrivals lounge open at Terminal 4, joining that of Terminal 2 (below), which will include showers and a day spa.

"People arrive at Heathrow at 5am because of the airport curfew but you can't check into your hotel until maybe 11am, so we want to let people have a shower and maybe a massage, relax, have breakfast, catch up on email and then go into the city" Song explains to Australian Business Traveller.

"Arrivals lounges are a concept we really want to push this year" she adds, saying there will be "many more" such lounges to follow.

If you have checked baggage, do you collect after using an arrivals lounge (which I have always assumed is airside and pre-immigration/customs - and what happens to your baggage on the carousel if you spend a few hours in the arrivals lounge?

noramlly it is non-airside but instead before you walk out of the door leaving the baggage collection

It may also be outside in a public area and hence it is a good idea to hold on to the boarding pass
