Qantas says it will codeshare on Emirates' Australian flights which route through Asia, along with those which head straight to Dubai.
Emirates currently runs four services which stop over in Asia before continuing to Dubai: these are Sydney-Bangkok-Dubai (EK419), Melbourne-Singapore-Dubai (EK405), Melbourne-Kuala Lumpur-Dubai (EK409) and Brisbane-Singapore-Dubai (EK433).
Under the Qantas-Emirates partnership, travellers will be able to rake in Qantas frequent flyer points and status credits on these flights, whereas on non-codeshare Emirates flights all you'll earn are the points.
"The flights that go Australia-Asia-Dubai are part of the deal" a Qantas spokesperson confirmed to Australian Business Traveller, although it was pointed out that flights from Dubai which terminate in Asia are not.
This effectively broadens the choice for Qantas flights to Singapore, while also putting one extra Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur service on the table for Sydney and Melbourne respectively.
