Scoot to start Taipei flights from September 18

Singapore Airlines' low-cost offshoot Scoot will begin flights to Taipei from September 18.

Initially running three times per week, the outbound service departs Singapore Changi Airport at 1.05am and arrives at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 5.40am.

The return flight will leave Taipei at 3.40pm to reach Singapore at 8.10pm.

Flights will kick up to daily frequency from 29 October and, subject to regulatory approval, continue from Taipei to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport.

China Airlines currently runs the only direct flight between Sydney and Taipei, although EVA Air is tipped to launch direct Sydney-Taipei flights later this year on the back of its existing Brisbane-Taipei service.

From what we've seen, most Australian travellers heading to Taipei seem to fly with Qantas or Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong and catch a connecting flight from there.

Horrible outbound flight times, and a lot of hours on the ground in TPE - not good for efficiency.

At least a good connection for most aus to SIN services.

Eva is running a handful of Sydney-Tapiei flights this month during Taiwan's summar school holidays, but for now that's a one-off special...
