Singapore Airlines offers bonus KrisFlyer, Velocity points

Virgin Australia partner Singapore Airlines is offering Aussie travellers a bonus serve of frequent flyer points in either its own KrisFlyer program or Virgin's Velocity scheme.

Passengers on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir flights can hoover up 50% extra points in economy or 100% in business or first class for flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Darwin "to any Singapore Airlines or SilkAir destination".

In addition, the promotion "is only eligible for KrisFlyer Members living in Australia as of 18 March 2014."

Your booking has to be made by April 9 for travel by June 15 on any Singapore Airlines or SilkAir-operated flight carrying an SQ, VA or MI flight number

If you want to earn Velocity bonus points you'll need to register for the promo, although there's no special registration required to scoop up the additional KrisFlyer miles.

Earlier this month Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines rejigged their frequent flyer relationship to allow earning of Velocity points and status credits on the lowest-priced SQ fares, although the number of Velocity points needed to redeem a 'free' Singapore Airlines flight between Australia and Singapore increased.

Thanks for the tip - I am now securing 105,000 velocity points on my upcoming trip (MEL to JNB) instead of a just 70,000!

Great deal, however be wary - communications/coordination between Velocity and SIA/Krisflyer are lamentable. Weeks can pass between responses. Excuses are as elaborate as "its not our fault, its the fault of Singapore Airlines". I'm currently following up points not yet credited to my velocity account for flights I took with SQ at the end of December 2013 from AMS-SIN-MEL. The latest response is that I was apparantly a no-show on any of the flights (despite having sent scanned copies of my boarding passes to velocity three times over the past 5 months).
