After closing Manila Airport earlier this week, Typhoon Nesat has shut down much of Hong Kong, with airport authorities issuing severe weather alerts. Ferries and bus services are cancelled, with the rail network working at a reduced frequency.
Flights at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) have been delayed, with an airport statement saying: "Due to the adverse weather conditions, flight operations may be affected. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information before leaving for the airport."
But with the territory issuing a No 8 level warning, make sure your seatbelt's tightly fastened before landing, and don't be surprised if your flight is diverted to another airport.
The Australian consulate is also closed, with the DFAT Smartraveller website issuing the following advice:
On 29 September, the Australian Consulate-General closed due to a Level 8 Storm warning issued by local authorities. Australians requiring consular assistance should contact the 24–hour Consular Emergency Centre on either the Hong Kong telephone number + 852 2827 8881 or the Australian telephone number + 61 2 6261 3305.
