United brings wi-fi internet to international flights

IN BRIEF | United is gearing up to introduce in-flight Internet on international flights as well as domestic US routes.

Beginning from mid-2012, passengers on United and Continental flights will have Internet access from their notebooks, tablets and smartphones through the on-board hotspot.

The satellite-based Internet service will be fitted to over 300 aircraft by 2015, including United’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner due in mid-2012.

The system, supplied by Panasonic Avionics, will also allow wireless streaming of video content.
