This is just nuts. From now on, if I want to go to the UK, I'm going through Paris to catch the Eurostar. But to be honest, I'm avoiding the UK as much as possible these days.

Maybe the airlines could include, near their bar onboard, a 'pod' where voice/video calls would be permitted. You could book time in there. Well that does it...I don't like extortion so UK is off the travel calendar now. Used to visit regularly but they can shove it...my big worry is that the current Australian Government might think this a good idea!

Those taxes, such as Hotel and Rental tax are applied to everyone, not just visitors and I'm not saying NZ is alone in this. But having just spent a month and half in the US, they did not differentiate between overseas visitors and locals as far as taxes went - in fact, tourists could get relief ...
