Shrewd yield management from the Qantas boys. They aren't going to give away "the keys to the kingdom" to weekend travellers.

Sounds good Ron. I'm due back for some family Christmas time at the beginning of that week, so count me in (though, as a matter of prudence, you should confirm a booking once we reach critical mass). It's an excellent wine list over there at the Survey Company; some great drops.

While I applaud VA for making the right decision from a risk point of view, giving a J class pax $24 in exchange for the meal service on a 14 hour flight is absolutely derisory!
