Would imagine the 4 new planes expected are being delivered at this time and may not have enough to start their new routes. Send the plane over to prevent it sitting around Sydney for the day before sending it overnight somewhere.

I believe it may be a a330 filling in for qantas freight due to a 767 being in maintenance and is doing the NZ run

There was only the one flight diverted to CBR which was a virgin flight from Brisbane. There were also a few international diversion to Mel including emirates a380 and Hawaiian airlines so would explain how busy it was

Thread was started just to say something unusual was doing a revenue flight into CBR and more of a plane spotters thing. Didn’t realise it was tied to an event. Vietnam airlines plane was because the head of state was in town:

Just noticed the Qantas 787 Dreamliner made a quick visit from Melbourne to Canberra and is heading back as we speak.
