There is an app available for Android devices, and I don't believe it requires the same activation that the IOS devices require. I have it, just waiting to hopefully test it out next week. I can't see why, if there was an app available, it wouldn't be functional with the already working hardware...

Just be aware that in the course of 11 months there is a good chance you may have a flight schedule change and, as the A/C often aren't assigned to the route until weeks out, the seat you select now may not be available come travel time.
