Virgin Australia & Westfield partner in Velocity buy-and-fly deal

Virgin Australia has signed up Westfield as the latest partner in its Velocity frequent flyer program.

The deal will see Velocity members earn two points for every dollar spent at Westfield's online shopping mall at westfield.com.au (so, alas, you won't earn anything from a spending spree at the physical shopping centres themselves), with points credited to your account after 28 days.

As a special launch promotion Westfield is running a double points offer until December 31, which boosts the earn ratio to four Velocity points per dollar.

The partnership was officially unveilled at a media launch held at Westfield Sydney tomorrow with 'Etihad brand ambassador' Dannii Minogue – singer, celebrity and sister-of-Kylie – as special guest to spruik the 'buy and fly' promotion.

That's certainly going one-up on the guest spot by Natalie Bassingthwaighte at September's the launch of the Qantas-Optus frequent flyer alliance.

Velocity actually has quite a few 'online store' point earning partnerships, the Apple Store is one and until the end of the year you get double points, so that's 4 points per dollar instead of 2. I'm about to buy a MacBook Pro (or Air, still can't make up my mind!) and might also get the 27" Thunderbold monitor, so that'll come in around $3,000 which will mean 12,000 Velocity points! :)
