Virgin Australia is launching the first stage of its new Velocity frequent flyer program today, including the long-awaited platinum level.
Velocity Platinum members will be able to get:
- Guaranteed reward seats for international travel
- Free cabin class upgrades
- Priority treatment with Virgin Australia and its international network of airline partners including access to some of the world’s best lounges and priority check-in, boarding and baggage
- Platinum membership with car hire and accommodation partners
- 100% points bonus on spend with Virgin Australia group of airlines and many of our travel partners
- Ability to earn Gold or Platinum membership for a companion
Velocity members will need to earn 1,000 status credits to attain Platinum level and 800 to retain it in subsequent years.

I have to say that this looks spectacular. The IHG Priority Club hook-up and the Hertz elite status that goes along with this is really attractive. But I suppose if you travel that often you'd have this anyway. They deserve a round of applause, they've obviously really tried to offer a product that can match the Qantas offering. Definitely signing up for the status match.
