First look: Cathay Pacific’s The Bridge lounge, Hong Kong

There’s an all-new Cathay Pacific lounge at Hong Kong – it’s The Bridge, which has arisen Phoenix-like from a previous Cathay lounge space adjacent to Gates 35-36.

That ‘previous Cathay lounge’ was also called The Bridge, and first opened in October 2013 – but after being boarded up in April 2020 at the start of the pandemic, Cathay later said The Bridge would “be closed permanently.”

But as travel – especially premium travel – has come surging back, and with The Wing lounges being closed for a two-stage renovation from mid-2025 to mid-2027, Cathay has brought The Bridge back to life to handle the capacity shortfall during The Wingless years.

“Once familiar and well loved by our customers for its panoramic views and convenient location, The Bridge has received a series of upgrades and updates to bring an enhanced experience to our customers,” the airline says.

And this is really an entirely new lounge, modelled on The Pier and Cathay’s other signature lounges across Asia, in Vancouver and London (and from early 2026, New York).

“Our goal was to create a space that feels genuinely welcoming – one that reflects our commitment to thoughtful, human-centric design,” explains Guillaume Vivet, Cathay’s General Manager for Customer Experience Design.

“From the furniture and dining to the scent and music, every detail has been carefully considered to enhance comfort and contribute to a relaxed, refined
atmosphere... a space where customers can truly unwind”

The Bridge is located at the end of the main spine of the terminal, just as you come up from the Automated People Mover and where the terminal splits into two piers.

Designed with two wings – one to each side of the reception area – The Bridge’s footprint spans a massive 2,700m2 with capacity for over 500 passengers.

Cathay’s magnificent make-over of The Bridge is so very Pier-like in its warmth and elegance, you might momentarily forget which lounge you’re in.

For the sake of comparison, here’s the same space as above, but from The Bridge’s original incarnation.

This keeps alive The Bridge’s original impression of “a living room environment, with natural sunlight filtering through the floor to ceiling windows”, as the airline once described it.

Being located on the airport’s lower level, similar to The Pier, parts of The Bridge – including the dining area and the bar – sport views across the apron and runway.

The Food Hall includes fresh oven-baked specialties such as savoury pies, braised beef bourguignon and vegetable bakes with ricotta and pesto.

To complement the iconic Noodle Bar, The Nook (which was previously The Bridge’s cafe) offers Chinese light bites such as pan-fried buns, spicy lamb bao, BBQ pork rice rolls, sesame noodles and dim sum.

That said, The Bridge’s Noodle Bar steps beyond the familiar wonton and Dan Dan noodles to include thick Shaanxi Biangbiang noodles seasoned with chilli and garlic.

The Bridge also features an exclusive area reserved for Cathay’s first class passengers and Cathay Diamond members – but not for Oneworld Emerald members.

This is a surprisingly large area, with room for 100 high flyers who are served a selection of Champagnes and premium wines.

Although we expect most first class passengers and Cathay Diamonds will make the leisurely ten-minute stroll to The Pier First lounge, this section of The Bridge will be a welcome alternative when The Pier First closes at 12.30am, given The Bridge is open until as late as 3.30am on certain days.

The Bridge is open from 5:30am until the last Cathay Pacific departure, which ranges between 12:30 and 3:30am.
