Cathay Pacific to open new 'The Bridge' lounge at Hong Kong Airport

Update | Cathay Pacific's new The Bridge lounge at Hong Kong opens tomorrow, and we've got the first photos – click here to check it out!

Previous | Cathay Pacific will open an all-new lounge at Hong Kong International Airport in September this year.

Dubbed The Bridge, it will be located adjacent to Gate 36 “at the end of the main spine of the airport, before you turn either right or left” at the northern end of the airport, says Toby Smith, Cathay's General Manager, Product.

(Note that in the airport map below, north is down and south is up. Cartographers, flame away!)

Smith tells Australian Business Traveller that The Bridge will likely be a single class lounge along the same lines as The Cabin.

The Bridge will be substantially larger than The Cabin, however, and occupies a downstairs space previously used by HKIA facilities.

"There’s a big distance between Gates 1 to 4 (The Wing) and 67 down to 80 (The Pier) so it makes a lot of sense to have lounges at either extremity" Smith explains.

“The Cabin works well for those gates around 23 to 30 as well as providing a slightly different lounge experience in terms of the environment.”

Like The Cabin, The Bridge will have a view across the airport’s operational area, apron and runway.

This will be Cathay’s sixth lounge at Hong Kong, counting The Wing, The Pier, The Cabin, The Arrivals and Gate 16.

This is great news for CX. I wonder when The Pier and G16 will be renovated? Also does this mean that CX has the most lounges at one airport?

Gate 16 is the former KA lounge located near the entrance to the Qantas Business lounge. Is pretty underutilised as not many Cathay flights seem to depart from that side, and even at those gates the Wing or Cabin are fairly convenient
