QF163 SYD-WLG 03 July. Diverted to CHC because too late for 1am curfew at WLG. A hundred pax dumped in the CHC terminal. 2am. No Qantas staff, no hotels, no information. Flight (delayed) departed SYD 2105. That's 2305 in WLG. Was it really going to make it to WLG in 1h 55m before curfew? Unlikely. Then why did it depart? And if there's a good reason for that, why no arrangements in CHC? Qantas really couldn't care less could they?

Wow, that's appalling, especially after all the negative publicity about the recent situation in Dallas where everyone was abandoned and forced to sleep on the airport floor.
I think QF may be getting away with too little negative publicity for poor service. Definitely unacceptable and probably worth a mention for the slow times during the school holidays as soon as the news about greater Sydney flooding stop getting top billing
It's become increasingly obvious that the bigwigs at Qantas charged with customer service are simply not up to the task. The Qantas brand is taking a beating. I wonder at what point the Board becomes involved?
At least they were allowed off the plane! I was on a QF flight to AKL in 2019 that was diverted to CHC due to closed runways in AKL. We had to stay on the plane overnight as we were told all the customs and immigration people had gone home and there was nobody to let us off the plane. We then flew to AKL early the next morning. It was an A330 so the crew may have just been within duty hours or whatever prevented the same crew from flying the flight in this story from CHC to WLG.
QF has technically been bankrupt for a number of years now. But creative accounting smoke and mirrors still means that management escapes the reality that other businesses have to navigate through. I for one will never fly QF ever again because of their blatant medical discrimination. There are others like me too by the way. And I am sure that many of their customers are happy that I will never fly with QF again. If a business is run by it's customers, then you know that it is beyond salvation in the long run. RIP
Interestingly tonight's flight has a scheduled landing time of 1:15am as well. Wonder if they too will end up in Christchurch
It didn't. It was canceled around 845p last night here in Sydney. Local pax told to go home. Others had to fend for themselves re hotels. I was booked on it and ended up getting myself booked into the Rydges over the road.

I would not fly them under the present circumstances and it's not just the internationals that get delays.even your ordinary domestic services get delays.I think it was last week when my brother visited from Melbourne the plane was an hour late into Adelaide.Mom couldn't drive to get him so he had to get the airport bus or something like that to Klemzig and one of us pick him up from there to our home or he caught rideshare company.
Wellington has a curfew too? What's the deal with all these curfews at Australian/NZ airports? I'm all in favor of noise reduction and improving quality of life, but come on, 95% or more of the world's major airports don't have a curfew and they're not playing these games. Would this one flight landing in Wellington late at night have disturbed that many Kiwi's precious sleep?

I didn't realise until Monday either. It's a weird one to have it as a large majority of flights come in over Cook Straight so they're not disturbing anyone. And it's 1am - which again, is a strange time to have a curfew

Exactly. I think the logistics of having to land hundreds of passengers at an alternative airport on the south island and paying for their hotel bills, hundreds of km away is a far greater inconvenience and cost than having had the flight land in Wellington. The only acceptable reason for diverting the flight in my opinion would have been for operational reasons such as weather (strong winds, low visibility etc.)

Be careful about posting anything negative about QF on here. You will just be at the receiving end of abusive tirades from some other users.
Tonight's QF163 has also been delayed - from 6.40 tonight to 1.00pm tomorrow.
Another day, another Qantas insult.

Re Wellington curfew:
It was a one off closure from 1am to 4am for Urgent runway repairs! Airport does not normally have a curfew. Doesn't excuse 1antas though!!
