Looking to book a classic flight reward with qantas for travel to LHR July 2023, and have been checking regularly to see when released so I can score one.

Problem I am having is I cant see a single reward seat apart from economy for any carrier (BA/EK/QF/MH) for June, July and start of August. I'm QF platinum so while i know its a busy period i find it weird i cant see anything.

Perhaps the release is slower than previous years or is something else going on? If anyone can shed some light that would be great. Or maybe i'm dreaming trying to get one....

If they anticipate being able to sell all the seats they may not choose to release any reward seats at certain times of the year. Also, this is one of the most popular routes, so seats tend to go quickly once they are made available.

There are a lot of people that only want to use their points for flights and after being stuck on the ground for a few years there's plenty of travellers with large points balances that they are looking to spend.

As a Platinum member you can call up and ask if seats can be released on QANTAS marketed and operated flights (so this won't work for BA/EK/MH etc.) . The obvious ones are QF1/2 to/from Sydney via Singapore and QF9/10 to/from Melbourne via PER, but QF also does other flights to/from Singapore that could connect with QF1/2.

I've seen seats get released in small batches at random times throughout the year.

Check availability every single day over the next few months and you might just be able to catch the random seat release for your dates. Don't blink or you'll miss it.

I’m gold and I managed to snag two business class rewards flights to LHR with JAL for early august 2023, but I agree that awards availability is appalling at the moment. I checked first thing every day for a month and they were the first non-economy award I’d seen. Keep at it!

They do not release Business award seats on QF9 as a blanket rule.

42 Business class seats on the 787 rather than when it used to be 64 on the A380.

Understand the A380s now have 72 business class seats but good luck finding on on QF1.

I always find that Platinum One can release 2 first class awards if requested, not sure about Platinum though.

I think it is all about CASH. They will be very unkeen to pay out cash to other airlines, especially at the pointy end. Its all smoke and mirrors. They are happy to have you on THEIR metal so long as it is down the back in the very low yield area of the plane. They are very happy to sell points to banks etc but loath to then let you use them
