Can anybody confirm for how long the Diamond status gifted as a Velocity Platinum lasts?
Velocity website indicates 12 months, and I seem to remember reading that this is generally it, and the case for all forms of gifted Hilton status
On the other hand, I believe status earned from stays lasts the remainder of that calendar year, plus the next calendar year, making right now in early Jan the right time to take up the offer if that’s how it would work.
Yup, 12 months, unless you stay at hilton to achieve diamond, it would drop to the level below (soft landing) and continue to drop to the basic level over few years. (This is how it used to be 3-4 years back, or apply for the Macquarie Hilton card), you get diamond as long as you hold that card.

I grabbed Diamond through Velocity in 2018, ~June. In January 2019 Hilton downgraded me to Silver (which I had with the days stayed) and I complained through Hilton & Velocity and they reinstated it and it lasted for the whole of 2019 (so 1.5 years in total). If that was a glitch or just the Hilton systems ... who knows.
For gifted status the Hilton website says 365 days now, so maybe they fixed it or better under control ...
I wouldn't do in January. Doesn't the regular status last till March when you didn't get enough nights in the previous year? If not 365 days you might just land in this category (still 14-15 months then though). Try from April onwards, in case same happens for you as for me.
