Flew VA J Class yesterday from Perth to Brisbane and had what I would say was the worst meal( lunch ) I have ever had in any J Class. It was supposed to be roast chicken with roast potatoes. Turned out to be steamed chicken with oven fried potato chips and green beans all swimming in a juice of some sort and everything was so soggy that the potato broke up when lifted. Utterly tasteless and disgraceful. The F/A's apologised and are writing a report. Could only eat the chook , the rest was terrible. It wasn't just me who didn't like it several others asked for something to eat from Y class as they would not eat their meal. Very poor from VA's catering.
Some things need a rant, I reckon this sort of thing is one. Airline food is often no better than a fairly ordinary cafe even in J, but what was served to Rod H just isn't good enough. Is there no quality control at VA Perth catering?
It's a long flight with limited option (wonder if the J class had to pay for extra servings raiding the Y class PAYG offering - remember the bean counters at the office are watching) and will be interesting to see if the standards of J class meal goes anywhere near the fantastic* cupa noodles again
* brand name, not description for readers who never go near that part of the shopping aisle
From memory Rod said he is a retiree and pays for his own trip and doesn't sound like the meal was anything of a Y class standard so justified rant IMO
I dunno, Rod. I mean, this rant may be justified but as a rant it simply doesn't attain the hights of your unforgettable "Pies in VA Business Class" rant from a couple of years ago. I'm a little disappointed...
Sibelius. One would have thought that VA's catering would be much better than the awful pies of a couple of years ago and it normally is but alas , on this flight, the "pies" would have been vastly superior to the alleged roast chook I was served!!!!!
As XWu has said I do pay for all of my VA flights myself so my criticism of the meal on this flight is well and truly justified.
It was nowhere anyway near the standard that a J class meal should be even in this age of a reduced standard of J class overall in a lot of Airlines post covid. The standard of service on VA' B737 is normally quite adequate however VA's superb service on the A330's is sadly missed,
This happens all the time on flights even in business class.. just accept that it's a frozen meal heated up in an airplane oven regardless in business or economy. I've had inedible meals consisting of some sort of pork cut in Cathay Pacific business and a downright crap vegan meal in Qatar business. It can be hit and miss. I've seen some pretty good meals come out of virgin J class menu though - the pies, the katsu chicken curry, braised beef and yes other chicken dishes! All were great.

I remember that QF were also serving Pies and Sausage Rolls in J during that period.
I would guess the Pies and Sausage Rolls in J on both QF and VA were of the 'gourmet' variety at the time as opposed to the ones that are typically found in Petrol Stations.
I can very much confirm that mediocre Pie's are very much still on the menu in QF J. Although admittedly this was a late evening departure between SYD-ADL. The accompanying two slices of sour-dough bread was okay though!

What a pity you don't have a photo to share, that would get real and immediate attention from the CA Mothership.
Maddy. The food in the Perth VA Lounge for a 1030am departure is not overly enjoyable or even available apart from a sandwich etc. Normally the VA flight food is way better than the terrible stuff that was on board this flight.
