  • Unfortunately, given your reluctance to fly, the short version is no. You will need to take the eligible flight to get the status credits. Qantas has actually covered this as part of the ‘extend status' announcement in their website (it is at the bottom of that statement).

    Out of interest does anyone know if the purchased upgrades come with a higher points/status earn ? I'm guessing this is airline dependant but that would factor highly in my decision to upgrade alongside my personal comfort:flight time metric.
