Anyone recently been through LAX at evenings arriving from Australia? Just wondering how bad are the immigration lines. I arrive at 1735, and i have a friend who is departing LAX around 2130. I was wondering if i could give him a decent window for him to be, so we could meet, on the outside, after clearing immigration.
Would 60mins be plenty of time?
Last time i was there, it took more than 90mins, as the machines were replaced by humans.
Just spent 5 weeks in the USA and entered and left - internationally - via LAX, which I haven't been through in 4 years.
My arrival time on Fiji Airways from SYD/NAN into LAX was at 2pm in the afternoon. Including luggage collection and CBP it took approximately 45-50 minutes to exit the terminal.
A further comment: Tom Bradley International s undergoing a significant amount of expansion of the check-in halls - and consequently, the entire front (roadside) part of the building is covered by hoarding. The main vehicle drop-off points have been (temporarily) relocated to the front of Terminals 3 and Terminal 4.
My flight back to SYD was at 11:55pm and the processing of security lines was surprisingly efficient (for LAX). More than a pleasant surprise.
I got an answer for myself. Arrived 30mins ahead of schedule. The lines were pretty long, cleared immigration after 90mins. Many people in that line along with us, missed their connections. Kids/infants were all in the same line as adults, pretty sad. Still shambolic! Looks like they have not heard of automatic gates like we have in australia or in singapore!
The manual processing for ESTA (where they know who the person is (in detail)) is a little strange.
Went through LAX after arriving on the QF17 approx. 4pm last Thursday. We were through with luggage 30mins after landing. We were the only flight however at the time of arrival - but it is still manual processing which can be time consuming. I am sure it would have been a different story if we had arrived with other flights.
