Hi All. Flying QF business out of SYD and wondering how early I can check in at the airport? Also I'm OW emerald with QR - if I've understood correctly I can access the First lounge? Thank you.
Your can check in any time from 0430 am on the day of travel. As a OW Emerald, you will have access to the QF First lounge prior to departure. Although a pleasant (if somewhat ageing) space with decent food and passable drinks, I wouldn't get there early for this reason alone unless you had absolutely nothing else to do in Sydney.

Hi DrSK. I am curious RE check0in from 4:30. Is it just Qantas? I will fly with JAL and curious if I can check-it a little earlier before JAL opens the counter.

That is just available with Qantas, and only for premium (OW Emerald). Only if you're flying QF Metal on a QF Flight Number. Approach the First Class Check In counter from 4:30AM and check in/drop bags for flights anytime that day.
For other airline, between 4-3 hours prior to departure, as they mostly use contracted staff. When I flew JAL out of Sydney last year, the check in staff were Qantas staff contracted out to JAL, but only opened check in for the JL flight 4h before departure.
Also, if checking in that early in the morning, just be mindful that the F Lounge won't be open until 5-5:15AM.

While this early check in benefit is well documented for some ?many. I can report it was denied (QF platinum) when travelling on the seasonal QF5 (Rome via) Perth service last year.
cheers,
Jakob

Not sure about Australia, but you indeed can early check in Singapore and Hong Kong.
