The fact that we moderate comments means there's always a chance that on super-busy days, some comments will disappear down the queue and not surface (which is why, for some articles we know will be very popular and on a very busy day, we will sometimes disable comment moderation for that article).
It's more common however that comments are not published for specific reasons: such as comments that aren't actually relevant, or low-effort / no-effort comments that fail to add any value to the article (eg are just a pointless rant which should be on a person's own social media account but doesn't deserve to be 'elevated' onto the Executive Traveller platform), or comments which get aggressive in sledging somebody.

Hi David,
Thanks for replay. I can assure you that my comment are not aggressive or attacking anyone. Rant? Basically you can call any opinion "a rant" - it is depends on your point of view. Anyway if users would be notified why comment not been published then they would not post similar comment in the future thereby easing your moderation efforts. And for those who cannot get three warning there is always an option of banhammer Also it would be useful instead of saying "Your comment been accepted" say something like "your comment will be published after moderation". Many placed doing so and in many places comment is visible to user who posted it with note that it is invisible for others until moderation is done. Combining this two approaches it would be very simple to add reason for a comment because no-one can see it anyway. I think it will streamline whole process.
I classify a 'rant' as being more about how much - or rather, how little - thought goes into the opinion, as well as how relevant (or not) it is to the topic. But bottom line: nine times out of ten, a comment is held back for good reason.
Those are good suggestions on how we could improve the moderation / feedback process, so thanks for those. We can look at those when we're giving the site a revamp later this year,
I think I've been victim to relevant comments being left off many times as well, and I'm pretty sure ET will disagree but I think the moderation is way too strict. Just the fact there has to be debate whether it's opinion or relevance or a rant or not, highlights this. Just let people say what they want, apart obviously from abusive and bad language... Readers can make their own opinions and judgements about relevance and rants.
You're right, MKS11, we do disagree, but as always it's a respectful disagreement :)
I'm trying to keep the quality of the discussion elevated and informed, for the entire Executive Traveller readership (which is well over one million uniques per month), not just those who comment. And comments that don't contribute to that goal are among those which are not published. If people want to "say what they want" they can fire up on their own Facebook page or Twitter account or wherever. Just because "they have something to say" doesn't mean it's worth hearing.
I tried to post a comment a few days ago in response to the article about how HSBC customers can get KrisFlyer Gold without flying.
I pointed out an extra, not insignificant requirement which customers need to meet in order to retain membership beyond the first 12 months. I questioned why the article hadn't mentioned this in the first place.
That comment is yet to appear. Does it not add value for Executive Traveller's readership to be fully-apprised of all important product details?
Hi all - I agree with the comments by others on here... too many comments are deleted where they do not meet the commercial interests of the site as opposed to usefulness to the reader - the HSBC card comments above being a really good example.
Furthermore, in the past any articles which were sponsored by the airline or card company etc., had a clear statement at the bottom that it was sponsored or even a clear statement where the flight was provided free by the airline. So the reader knew the true circumstances behind the article...but all of that has stopped. By way of comparison, the travel section of The Australian newspaper still makes clear in the review where the travel was provided by the airline etc.
This is a private website and it is entirely up to the ET Leadership to run it as they fit - like any private business...but to say the moderation is done in the interests of the readers is a bit too far from the truth especially considering the changes re open transparency on who funded the flight.
I guess, I will now be banned or blocked by David :- )

Hi Serg – posts under articles are generally held for moderation, once they get the tick of approval they are published.

Hi David,
