Yes I think none of the chinese airlines have PE.
I think they're all reasonably similar, I would just get whichever is cheaper if no FF loyalty.

In my experience QF > CX > BA in PE. Don't have experience with VS PE though, only VA which applies to Abu Dhabi and LAX. QF though as you point out is generlly much dearer. For VS/BA/CX may come down to if you have lounge access privileges.

spinoza: I'm pretty sure China Southern has PE, though it is the same width. Both seat pitch and service are better than Economy, as the former is an extra 5 inches and the latter includes extra amenities, e.g. a snack. But the drawback is that only CAN/PEK - AMS and back have this Premium Economy.
As for Dale's question, I prefer QF, since it wins in terms of seat comfort. VS is a little hard, CX doesn't have a proper legrest and BA's is comfortable but not very different from their economy service.

While QF PE does have a "proper" footrest, it does not go up high enough, which renders it useless. Worth the extra $$?

TheRealBabushka: Well, then, it's either CX front row or VS. They have good legrest angles. BA is pretty good (they run the new 777) as well, but the seats are quite small.

China Southern's PE is just an economy seat with extra legroom and virtually no "improved" service. It's not really a premium economy seat, but more like a typical US airline PE seat.

Jason: As far as I know, they serve extra snacks, a better pillow and a (bare) amenities kit, and I'm pretty sure they give you an extra piece of baggage allowance but for that I stand to be corrected.

It's comparable to 777-200 premium economy on Air New Zealand.

I generally find CX PE better value due to the following three factors:
1) Seat recline is very very generous. I slept like a baby, even more so than flying in business (lie flat & angled flat).
2) The main meal options are those offered in Business class - Very high quality; I've yet to be disappointed
3) Very very reasonable prices
While it's true you do not get the same veneer of exclusivity on CX as you would on QF, CX definitely trumps QF when measuring substance over form.

QF has sale on at the moment for PE. VA PE is very good value, but QF PE sale is currently cheaper, depends if VA are flying to your ____ destination_____???

I flew BA WT+ in October last year on the new 777/300 SYD LHR return, cost $3300, same date on QF was $5700. On the 777/300 series BA has the new WT+ cabin which is in my opinion as good as QF,
which I have flown many times. (The old WT+ was terrible) The main difference is you have to share lavatories with economy. The meal service is much better than BA's old WT+, but not as good as QF, you don't get champagne when leaving, only water or juice, but the meal is OK. The other advantage, in my opinion, is you fly via SIN and arrive at LHR T5, which is much better than the old T3. If you have status the lounges at T5 are a great improvement on T3. I haven't tried CX, but of corse you still arrive at T3 on CX.. So in short I will only fly BA these days.

Out of curiosity - are you trying to find a good way to do the Kangaroo Route in Y+ (SYD - LHR)?

Yes, MEL to LHR,LGW, or CDG or AMS.
We have flown Business Class for the last 7 years, and go on to the Scottish Borders. Thought we would try PE (J+), have been told that it is as good as Chinese business class. I have found that CE are now $6000+, CS at $5600. Even RB are at $5650, now they have B787's, AI also at that price. Might have to go to the Flight Centre travel show in Feb and see what they have???
