what i meant to add is, I have 530,000 QFF points and was wondering would it be better to spend my points on flights (my family of 3 is considering a holiday to europe or america) or to trade them in for gift cards etc. My problem with the flights is that we still have to pay taxes for the 3 of us to get to europe that is like $2500, so how much am I really saving?

Using points on gift cards etc = p!ssing them on the wind. Booking economy ticket is pretty much the same. You have enough points for 2 return business tickets to Europre, so book 2 and pay for 3-rd. Tip: you will be better of to pay for yourself, thus you earn more points.

Do a dummy booking for flights so you can see what you'd normally have to pay in cash, and the difference is your saving.

It is always better to use your FF point's on air travel not on any other award for maximum  benefit ,look at points plus cash to minimise the  amount off cash you have to spend .!!  Hope this helps

I only spend points one way, and I believe it is the most efficient in terms of dollars saved vs points used. I buy PE tickets and upgrade to Business. I have never been turned down for a points upgrade. Unlike discount economy tickets, every PE ticket is upgradable, even sale PE tickets. To HKG return, I've saved anywhere between $2000 to $4000 by not buying business, and used 50,000 points to upgrade. (And I also earn at least 20,000 points back, as a platinum, more if you pay with QFF credit card.)

That's a minimum value of 4c of value per point gross, and 6c of value per point, net of the points I earn back.

If you spend 60,000 points on a economy ticket to HKG on the other hand, you save about $500 (considering taxes are $400). So that's less than 1c of value per point.

And as the above article notes, spending it on gift cards gets you far less than 1 c per point (at least 0.74c).

What are the chances of a bronze to get upgrades from PE? I have around 300,000 qantas points i want to burn. I wanted to attempt to fly F with them. Was thinking i would buy a PE and then upgrade to F (if that is even possible).

Economy can upgrade to PE and Business

PE can upgrde to Business.

Only Business can upgrade to First

Ah. Some how got it in my head that a PE -> Buisness then request another upgrade from Buisness -> First was possible. Maybe its time to start accumilating some more points and hope for a reward seat in first to pop up.

I don't think the chances are going to be that much worse compared to a platinum, from PE to Business. If Business is not full, you'll get it. And Business Class doesn't often seem to be completely full to me....

Though as a Bronze member you'd be last off the rank in terms of Qantas processing upgrade requests.
