Quite new and really enjoying ABT and I'm hoping for a bit of foresight from some experienced travelers.

I'm flying QF-12 PE next month to LAX which will land me right on 700SCs for QFF Gold. I have a connecting AA flight to JFK with an AA flight number (entirely separate booking).

I'm hoping to utilise the Admirals Lounge and their generousOW Sapphire free checked baggage allowance for myself and a companion although I'm doubtful the status change will occur in time.

Is it worth seeing if Qantas can change my status early?(on departure?) And how much of an inconvenience will it be not having a QFF Gold card for more of my domestic AA flights throughout Nov?

Hi stevo.

i could be wrong but I doubt QF would change your status upon departure given that it usually takes them a while to process it on their own. Can't help you with the free checked baggage allowance, but if lounge visits are important to you- I suggest you purchase the 30 day admirals club membership. $99 and you can use it at all AA lounges as well as all/most OW Lounges assuming your best flight is on a OW affiliated carrier. You are also allowed to bring 2/3 guests into the lounge with you.

safe travels

Take an Account Summary print out with you would be my first piece of advice.  Definitely worth a call to QFF to see what they can do.

What is the timing on connection?  I've had a 3hr connection through LAX and managed a total of 20 min in a lounge.  So it may not end up being that big an issue for you.

Thanks Lionel and 11sjw. I'll give QFF a buzz a few days out and see what magic they might be able to weave for me.

Short enough layover and four other AA flights starting over a week after so I think I'll forego a pass. The status change will surely be in effect before my subsequent AA flights. I suppose so long as they check my QFF number and not my Silver card all will work out?

stevo, I was in exactly the same position as you will be, arrived in LAX with 700 SC's and about to travel AA LAX/ORD. I already had a boarding card issued at checkin in BNE that said QFF Silver so i asked the Admirals Club staff to check my status, sure enough it came back as "Oneworld Sapphire".

I think you'll be OK but print you status details immediately before you leave Aus just incase. The AA staff can rehit your boarding card anyway and the status will come up on that.

Don't expect too much from the Admirals Club foodwise, the showers are great though if you have time.
