Departing Sydney International Business Class CX to Hong Kong then CX First Class to New York. Tickets booked through Qantas Frequent Flyer Points. What lounges can I access in Sydney ? Thankyou.

Qantas Business Lounge Sydney.

If you are a top tier  Oneworld frequent flyer i.e FFPL Qantas you can use the FIrst Lounge Sydney.

Does the onward First Class booking give access to the First Lounge in SYD regardless of status?

I think you may actually qualify to use the Qantas First Lounge in Sydney on the basis of the following, in particular bullet point no. 2 as extracted from the Oneworld website:

  • Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:
    • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
    • Lounge access will be determined on the international long haul ticketed flight (either First of Business Class) regardless of the ticketed class of travel on the international short haul or domestic flight.
    • You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

Thanks TRB.  Was that from the Oneworld webpage?

Unfortunately I don't think this subsection applies - the OP by that definition is taking two long-haul flights.

I believe that is designed to cover someone flying say LAX-SYD (in F) connecting to SYD-AKL (in J)

That said, its worth a try

I was thinking of that. Is short or long based on relative distance or is it defined as a specific benchmark i.e. anything over X hours?

I asked a similar question on AFF a while back; I am flying SYD to Guangzhou via HK on Qantas. First leg is Qantas J and second leg is DragonAir in Y. I wanted to know if I would receive access to Qantas lounge in HK, and based on the above-mentioned oneworld rules, I will have access.

Your scenario is clear cut. You will gain access to any OW operated Business Class lounge in HKG prior to the Dragonair flight. I'd opt for the CX lounges but that's my preference.

Sadly I think Moa is correct. But worth a try.

You can use the Qantas International Business lounge in Sydney and in Hong Kong whatever the CXlounge is, and there is also a Qantas one so maybe try that. You can go to the First Class lounges of Qantas and CX in Sydney and Hong Kong, respectively, if you hold a FF card for CX or any other Oneworld airline you qualify for FCLs even if you are in Economy class.
