Hi :)

I have long been a reader of this website and have finally signed up after much procrastination. I have a question about an issue which is causing me much confusion. I am travelling to Europe in July of this year booked to fly to Amsterdam (from Perth) on QF8423 and QF8147, and then back from Heathrow on QF8008 and QF8422 in economy.

I am a Qantas Club member and a Lifetime Silver Frequent Flyer and would like to know which lounges (if any) I am eligible to enter in Dubai and Heathrow. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

You will be able to use the Dubai international business lounge during your stopover in DBX.

In addition you can use the AA Admirals Club at LHR, although this lounge is only very basic where as the dubai international business lounge is tricked out with all the luxuries.

The other thing is that in the AA admirals club, you cant get in using a Qantas club complementary inviation, only if you have a qantas club membership, which you obviously do.

Ah okay I didn't realise I got access to the AA lounge. I was looking for a Qantas lounge in T3 of Heathrow and wasn't getting anywhere. Makes sense now. I don't mind the AA lounge being basic as long as the Dubai one is good as I think I've got between 1am and 8:20am there.. Do you think it's good enough to not need to get a hotel room?

Thank you so much for the timely reply as well :)

RIPQF77,

In light of this information, could you please advise if you are able to gain access to the Admirals Club at LHR T3. It would be good to know the situation on the ground.

From what I gather only 2(?) Qantas flights actually operate to Heathrow, neither of which works time wise when connecting in Dubai to Perth, meaning that I have to go on one of the plethora of Emirates flights to Heathrow..  My flights however are QF numbers, yet not QF operated so I reckon ill push to get in at the Admirals Lounge on that basis

Hayden,

It is interesting that the wording on the Qantas website for access to the Admirals Club at LHR T3 by Qantas Club members is as follows:

"Next onward flight that day must be a QF operated and marketed flight".

Now I doubt you are wrong, as this is in the spirit of the Qantas club arrangement at LHR, but what if we are wrong and access is precisely as detailed on the Qantas website. That EK flight is only Qantas marketed, not Qantas operated.

Is this an error on the Qantas website that needs rectifying or does this represent yet another poor deal for the QF/EK arrangement?

Whenever I have flown out of LHR I have always flown on QF metal, so I have never really encountered any problems with using my Qantas club membership to get into the Admirals lounge.

If that is the case and you need to be flying on DF metal, it is another poor deal for the QF/EK deal.

7 and a half hours is a long stopover, especially between 1 and 8am.

Its probably not good enough to get a hotel room, as there are no beds so to say, and im sure business class travellers wouldnt be happy about someone laying down on a couch and sleeping.

Plus, the airport hotel rooms are pretty expensive, and (from experience trying to book one recently) cant check in after 11pm or 1am.

But you could always look at getting a few hours in the snooze cubes there, they are about $25/hour and pretty comfortable

Prime sleeping hours, I'd get one if possible!

The other option I had when booking was the 6:00AM flight out of Perth (EK425), which had a much shorter layover in Dubai and got into Amsterdam the same night. I didn't end up booking it however because I felt that two long daytime flights with no sleep would be way too boring...
