I am a Etihad Gold Guest travelling on Virgin Australia from Sydney to Bali. Does anyone know if I can use the Virgin Australia designated international lounge at Sydney (Air NewZealand temporary lounge)?
I asked the staff at the domestic Virgin Australia lounge in Melbourne today but they couldn't confirm either way.

I believe I heard this same question being asked of staff when I was walking into the Melbourne Koru Club. If I heard right, the answer given was no, because the Koru lounge is a contract lounge rather than a Virgin Australia operated lounge. I'm sure the same applies at Sydney. Neither is the lounge mentioned in the Service Benefits information for Etihad Guest members flying Virgin Australia page on Etihad's website. If you are flying Business, you will get lounge access, otherwise unlikely.
OneWorld is the best for reciprocal lounge access when flying carriers/codes outside your membership scheme airline (although it's not perfect either, with exemptions catching you out sometimes). Ideally there would be an alliance where you could access any airline partner lounge (provided you were flying within the alliance) and not be offered woeful tier/status points for flying other partners (like OneWorld used to be), but alas every scheme has got it's flaws now.

Long answer above. Short answer no. But you might be able to wait in the domestic lounge and then change terminals!, this was the'helpful' suggestion at the virgin checkin when I asked last time. Just kick back with a beer with the rest of us!, enjoy Bali
Thanks for the advice.
Ended up kicking back with a beer at terminal bar.
