Vietnam ! Amazing country , cheap direct flights with Vietnam Airlines from Sydney and I think you can pay a bit extra to put in for an upgrade - well worth it.

Japan, go with ANA, their new route is opening in December on the 787 Dreamliner. I loved it over there!

1500 per person will actually get you pretty far, depending on when you want to travel. You can reach New York or Amsterdam for less than that.

"Best" is very subjective, so maybe you can tell us more about what you want to do/see when you travel?

Plenty to choose from!  Boracay, Langkawi, Krabi are some that aren't too far.

New Zealand actually amazing country.

Bali (a bit crowded) and Lombok (nice and quiet).

If you want to go beaches then; Bali, Fiji, Phuket, Lombok and maybe Hawaii? you can find cheap flights on SkyScanner.

As said, $1500 can get you lots of places. I had an itinery earlier this year for SYD-KUL-TPE-HKG-HND-SYD for $1400........

I'm going with Sri Lanka. It's an up and coming tourist destination. You can even get flights for under $1,000 if booking early.

The AU dollar still gives you good spending power when converted. It's not as commercialised as other countries.
